Lower Rock Creek, California - California Mountain Biking
Lower Rock Creek is located 15 miles south of Mammoth Lakes, California. While most mountain bikers come to this area to bike at the popular Mammoth Mountain Bike Park, no trip here would be complete without riding the Lower Rock Creek Trail.
This trail is a must do for several reasons. First of all, the eight mile 2,000 foot climb can be easily done on the well graded, seldom used Old Hwy 395. This ride can also be done using the two car shuttle system. Second of all, the trail decends gradually, never climbing, allowing for maximum enjoyment for elevation lost. Third of all, the terrain varies from smooth straightaways to rocky technical sections to tight windy singletrack.
To get here, drive south from Mammoth Lakes on Hwy 395 for about 15 miles to the Old Hwy 395 turnoff. Take this exit and continue south on Old 395 for about 8 miles until you reach the Paradise restaurant/resort. Park in the turnoff on the right side of the road.
