Mount Saint Helens, Washington - Washington Mountain Biking

Best known for it's specatular eruption sixteen years ago, Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument offers some of the most spectacular scenery found anywhere. In fact, mountain biking is probably the best way to experience the destructive power of the 1980 eruption, and the amazing recovery that has since followed.

Scenery isn't the only reason to come here. Mount St. Helens also offers a large variety of rides, including the 27 mile Loowit Trail (#216) which encircles the active volcano (portions are closed to mtn bike use). On the south side of the mountain the 13.6 mile (one way) Toutle Trail Loop (#238) meanders through old growth forests & mudflow scoured canyons. There are also plenty of scenic Forest Service roads (gravel) including the road #8312 which climbs to the top of Marble Mountain.
