Mountain Bike Resource - Trails - Sparks to Lava Ride Summary
Ride Description
This trail runs between Sparks and Lava Lakes on the west side of Mt. Bachelor. The trail is just part of a series that encircles the base of this 9,065' volcano. The tight single track will lead you through lava rock formations, thick forests as well as many alpine lakes and streams. The trail is 10 miles one way and can either be done as an out-and-back, or it can be looped up with HWY 46. If your feeling energitic you can also link this trail up with the 'Lava Lake to Edison Ice Cave' trail (10 miles) and about 15 miles of road to form a complete circle around the base of Mt. Bachelor.
Directions To Trailhead
Drive Hwy 46 from Bend towards Mt. Bachelor. Depending on how you want to ride this one, you can park at several locations. If you want to ride uphill first then you will want to park at the Lava Lake campground. To get here drive on HWY 46 about 13 or 14 miles beyond Mt. Bachelor Resort. Turn left and park at the campground. If you wish to ride down first (maybe using the two car shuttle system) you can either park at Sparks Lake (take a left on dirt road 400 just beyond Mt. Bachelor Resort) or park at a turn out as you enter the Mt Bachelor ski area. This second option will allow you to ride some great twisting single track as well as some Nordic trails that eventually link to the Sparks to Lava trail.
