A Mountain Bike Road Trip - MBR Mountain Biking in Mammoth Mountain

Having been to just one mountain bike park before, I wasn't really expecting much at all. I was surprised to find that the Mammoth Mountain Parks service had done an excellent job of building & maintaining the trails here.

Electing not to take the Gondola, we started right from town and before we knew it we were riding up a trail called "Big Ring". Big Ring ended about a quarter way up the mountain where it formed a "T" intersection with "Paper Route".

At this intersection there was a cooler full of cold water. Heading right Paper Route is an easy ride with little elevation gain. After reaching the main lodge, we doubled back about halfway where we decided to climb up "Brake Through" until it reached "Bridge the Gap".

From this highpoint (elevation 9,900 feet), we decended "Skid Marks" which is a series of switchbacks. While none of the trails here are very technical, the sandy trail conditions do make some of the switchbacks more challenging.

Riding out on Paper Route, we reached out campground within a couple miles. Total loop = 16 miles.
