A Mountain Bike Road Trip - MBR Mountain Biking in Lower Yosemite
The drive from SF only took us 3 1/2 hours to make to our next destination, Bass Lake. Bass Lake is located about 15 miles south of Yosemite National Park and is an ideal spot for mountain bikers.
When we got here, we really didn't expect to do any mountain biking at all. All this changed though when we passed the Oakhurst Cycling Center end of Oakhurst (about 6 miles from Bass Lake).
After hearing about the annual 48 mile race they sponsor every fall that climbs over 5,000 feet, it didn't take long for the shop employees to convince us that this area was one of the great undiscovered mountain bike destinations in the Western US. Within minutes they had drawn us a map that showed several trails that started right from our campground (Forks Campground @ Bass Lake).
So the next morning, in an attempt to beat the heat, we woke up at 6am. After a quick campground breakfast, we road right from our tent to the Goat Mountain Trail. Overheating from a great ride, the trail thankfully ended at the shores of Bass Lake, the perfect place to cool off.
