Greg Herbold Retires

After nearly 10 years of racing, Greg 'H-Ball' Herbold has announced that 1995 would be his last year of racing. Herbold, whose influence helped define mountain biking as we know it today, will settle down at his 135 acre ranch just outside of Durango. Herbold's achievements include Dual Slalom & Downhill National Titles in 1989 and World Downhill Champion in 1990. Even though his racing career has ended, Herbold plans to remain busy with R&D projects as well as possibly starting his own mountain bike camp at his ranch.

Cactus Cup This Weekend

Let the season begin. For the last few years, the Specialized Cactus Cup has come to symbolize the beginning of the mountain bike race season. The popularity of the event is purely timing as it does not count towards NORBA or World Cup points. The three day event takes place March 15-17 in Scottsdale Arizona. Be sure to check back with MBR on Monday for race results.

Trek & Volkswagen Team Up

Similar to the Volvo-Cannondale team, VW & Trek have combined forces to sponsor the Trek-Volkswagen pro mountain bike team. This is just another example of how the wide spread popularity of mountain biking is beginning to attract sponsors outside the industry. The Trek-Volkswagen team includes riders Don Myrah, Travis Brown, Daryl Price & Miles Davis.
