World Cup Downhill #1 - Spain
Spaniard Tomas Misser (Kona-Volvo) used everything he had, including the home court advantage, to win the first World Cup Downhill event of the year by just over a second. Anne-Caroline Chausson (Sunn-Chipie) easily won the women's DH event finishing over eight seconds ahead of Missy Giove (Volvo-Cannondale).
Not qualifying, Miles Rockwell (fork failure) and Brian Lopes (crash), left the men's race wide open. After winning Saturday's event, Joe Lawill (Yeti) had a spectular endo, recovered and finished 28th overall. Finishing just one second behind Misser was Steve Peat (MBUK-Nike).
The women's race, while not as close, did have four riders finishing within 5 seconds of Missy Giove.
